The Entrepreneurial Mindset in the Context of Startups
Our March-to-May Bootcamp is a 10-week Saturday program where students may work in teams or as individuals to start a venture. Students from a variety of backgrounds and interests learn how to harness their own skills and interests as a launch pad to create a value-driven, sustainable solution to a real-life market opportunity. Classes are taught by various experts in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Grants are awarded to top student ventures, and continued support (via Skunkworks) is provided for all who complete the Bootcamp.
The March-to-May Bootcamp is our flagship program, and has been commended by:
Designed for middle school and high school students from any school or town, participants work with a variety of entrepreneurs to start a venture, figure out how it impacts their local community, and determine how it will generate revenue while driving social change.
ALL students who complete the Bootcamp are recognized as Youth CITIES Scholars by the City of Boston or Cambridge for their entrepreneurial training, and have access to CITIES Skunkworks (physical space and mentoring office hours, among other perks to reach a Minimal Viable Product—such as access to coders and 3D printers). Youth CITIES Scholars also have access to additional funding through the venture simulation fund, and may also apply for exclusive internships within Skunkworks.
Regular classes will meet every Saturday from 9am to 12pm at CIC, from the first Saturday of March through the end of April. (Fun fact: CIC is a full service office-campus in Cambridge believed to house more startups under its roof than any other facility in the world.) For the last two weeks of the program, student ventures will be presented at the semi-finals and finale, respectively.
Please note that the bootcamp will begin with a kickoff event and conclude with a finale to be scheduled outside of the above days and times. In the latter half of the program, students will be asked to jump into the mix of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and practice the “elevator pitch” portion of the final oral presentation at Venture Café (housed at CIC every Thursday from 3pm to 8pm) in an effort to make a memorable impression among the various networkers.
Please fill out the form below to register. You will receive an initial confirmation of your online registration upon submission. Your registration will be complete upon receipt of your program fee + $75 registration fee. Standard program fee is $425. Financial aid is available, as are sibling discounts.
Registration deadline is February 4th, 2018. However, we have a 30 student maximum based on first-come-first-serve. Once we reach 30 registrants, we will place additional applications on a waiting list. Students are considered registered (and therefore their slot reserved) when both the completed registration form is submitted, and the program fee is received.
Please make checks payable to: Youth CITIES. Make sure to write the registered student’s name on the memo line, and mail to:
